APPLYING SOCIAL MEDIA TO LEARNING
Social Media & Intra-Organisational Learning

Intra-Organisational Learning involves keeping the organisation up to date and up to speed on strategic and other internal initiatives and activities.  It might be managers providing strategic view of the business, or project leaders providing updates of activities.

Using social media

  • Senior managers can create and share blogs, podcasts, videos and presentations to provide their own perspective on strategy, etc, which employees can comment and feedback on
  • Project teams can create and share blogs, podcasts, videos and presentations to disseminate information about current initiatives around the organisation, which others can comment and feedback on
  • Employees can use a micro-blogging service to keep colleagues in the organisation up to date with what they are doing or working on
  • Employees within an organisation can contribute to a library of internal (and even external) links relevant to different activities and projects categorised using specific tags with a social bookmarking service.
  • An organisation can set up a community or network for its employees in order for contacts to be established between colleagues as well as easy communication and collaboration between colleagues (ask questions, have discussions) or a fully-functional social and collaboration environment.

The technology options

When considering an integrated approach to learning, across the organisation, take a look at how to build an integrated social learning environment.
