Comments from some of those who selected Google Earth as one of their Top 10 Tools in 2009

  • I am extraordinarily excited about the possibility of creating lit trips via Google earth. I've previously used this application for sharing settings in stories or for looking at the geography of areas that we are studying in school. I hope to allow my students to read a novel and create their own lit trip about the novel through googleearth. Mary Howard

  • students will create Google Lit Trips and other content lessons in Google Earth; good for young students who have difficulty conceptualizing that they live in Charleston which is in SC which is in the US ... Sarah Davis

  • see the world at your desk Martin Schlichte

Comments from those who selected Google Earth as one of their Top 10 Tools in 2008

  • Endless possibilities!  Google Earth has added so many great applications for the classroom.  Keeps the students completely engaged. Kora Stoll

  • Bringing the earth to reality for students is amazing. Students can learn about their surroundings in a way not possible without a tool such as this.  Students can learn it almost instantly and start finding landmarks that they know."  Kevin Amboe

  • "It certainly is hard to cut off this list at 10 and decide which application will take my last spot, but I feel I could leave google Earth out.  Not only does it provide the most dynamic look at our earth... it has so much existing learning content that has been shaped around it and the potential for so much more.  I could easily see many courses built entirely around its use."  Mark Arnold

  • "This is perhaps the most powerful tool for changing one's world view. You don't see many political boundaries from space at least during the day but at night it's a different story see "The word at night" for a different view."Rupert Russell

  • "Provides a whole new perspective on the world. The visuals improve students' (and teachers') understanding of the world by actually seeing the locations. The ability to use and create overlays provides a geographical context for almost any subject area"  Leigh Zeitz

  • "This feeds my need to look around the world. I constantly reference Earth to provide background to stories and have added my own photos and links to the community"  Michael McVey
